Reddit Marketing Case Study: From 0 to 50 Customers Using Reddit Only

Sylvain Lin
TL;DR

A SaaS founder used Reddit comment marketing to go from 0 to 50 paying customers in 6 months. Total cost: ~$25/mo in tools + 20-30 minutes daily. No ads. The key: targeting high-intent "what tool should I use?" threads in niche subreddits and letting the compounding from Google ranking and AI citations multiply the effort.

The Setup (Month 0)

The founder had a B2B SaaS tool in a competitive niche. Traditional channels were expensive: Google Ads at $8+ CPC, LinkedIn at $10+ CPC, content marketing taking months to rank. Reddit was the experiment.

Product: B2B SaaS, $49/mo average

Reddit tool: Reppit AI ($25/mo)

Time investment: 20-30 min/day

Accounts: Started with 1, scaled to 3

Target subreddits: 15 niche communities

Month 1-2: Foundation

Farmed the first account for 3 weeks. Comment karma first (400+), then post karma (2,500+). Built CQS to High through genuine participation in relevant subreddits. Started progressive warmup of marketing comments.

Comments posted: ~60 (ramping up)

Direct Reddit traffic: ~200 clicks

Signups: 8

Paying customers: 3

Month 3-4: Compounding Starts

Some early comments started ranking on Google. Threads the founder commented in 2 months ago began appearing in search results for product comparison queries. Traffic came from both Reddit and Google. Added a second account to expand subreddit coverage.

Comments posted: ~120/month (2 accounts)

Traffic: ~600 clicks (Reddit + Google)

Signups: 22

Paying customers: 12 (cumulative: 15)

Month 5-6: Full Compounding

Multiple threads now ranking on Google. ChatGPT started mentioning the product when asked about the category (the AEO effect). Added a third account. The same 20-30 minute daily effort produced dramatically more results than month 1.

Comments posted: ~180/month (3 accounts)

Traffic: ~1,500 clicks (Reddit + Google + AI referral)

Signups: 48

Paying customers: 35 (cumulative: 50)

Monthly cost: ~$100 (tools + proxies) + time

50 customers x $49/mo = $2,450 MRR. Acquired for approximately $100/month in tools plus founder time. Cost per acquisition dropped from $50 in month 1-2 to $10 in month 5-6. Compounding works.

Key Lessons

Patience in month 1-2 pays off. The account setup and farming phase feels unproductive. It's the foundation that makes everything after it work.

Intent scoring is critical. 5 comments in high-intent threads outperform 20 in low-intent ones. Reppit's 0-100 scoring made the daily 20 minutes dramatically more effective.

Honesty converts better than hype. Comments that mentioned competitors honestly got more upvotes and more clicks than pure promotional ones.

Google + AI is the real multiplier. By month 4, more traffic came from Google and AI referrals than from Reddit directly. The Reddit comments were the seed, but search and AI were the amplifier.

Scale with accounts, not volume. Going from 1 to 3 accounts tripled coverage without pushing any single account past safe posting limits.
